Living too long can be a blessing or a burden.
It is a blessing if you live long enough and you’re prepared.
It is a burden if you live long enough and you’re not prepared and find yourself dealing with life’s uncertainties.
In life, there are two possible uncertainties – either you live too long and get too sick or disabled or your life is taken away too soon.
The problem becomes more complicated if you live too long and you are forced to work beyond your retirement years or became too dependent on others, if you don’t have enough money to sustain you. If you expire too soon and you’re not ready financially, it will cause a financial strain on your family.
My New Year’s message is this:
It’s never too late to start. If you are reading this, be grateful that you are alive. Every single day that you wake up is a blessing from the Lord. We all live on borrowed time. He alone decides when we get to stay or leave this earth.
So while there’s still time, here are two practical ways to prepare:
1. Get an annual medical exam if you have not done it yet for quite some time. That way, you will have an idea if you are still healthy in general. I’ve seen some people get diagnosed with the big C and they are not even protected against it. And while dealing with it, it’s taking a toll on them not only physically but also financially.
If you get a clean bill of health, keep doing the things that you have been doing. Maybe you have been living a healthy lifestyle. If not, then it’s time to change your lifestyle and do something about it before your health condition worsens. Health is wealth.
Above all, you might as well consider buying a life insurance. The irony of life insurance is this: Buy a life insurance when you don’t need it because when the time comes that you need it, you cannot buy it anymore
2. Getting your finances right at this time of the year is a good start. If you are challenged financially, then you might also want to consider investing in a Financial Wellness seminar. This will save you more than not attending one. Ignorance is more expensive if you have no idea how to straighten out your financial mess because you might be spending on unnecessary items if you are not following a plan. The key to a healthy wallet is being financially literate and applying it.
Find a Financial Planner that you know and trust. You can ask for referrals. If you don’t know anyone in your own network, you might want to consider first the company background. It’s always good to consider a company that is stable and a leader in the industry. Finding a company that gives free Financial Wellness seminars and invests in technological innovations show how serious the company is in the business of life insurance and investments.
By being prepared physically and financially in the long term, living too long by God’s grace, will guarantee a measure of enjoyment and success that you deserve.
