From the Book of Proverbs Chapter 13 (NIV).
These are the verses that called my attention today:
v.3: He who guards his lips guards his life.
(If you have nothing good to say to your neighbor, then just keep your mouth shut. But be generous with praise and encouragement if you sincerely mean it. An honest answer is like a kiss on the lips but flattery only comes out from the teeth)
v.4 … but the desires of the diligent are fully satisfied
(You reap what you sow)
v.7 One man pretends to be rich, yet has nothing; another pretends to be poor, yet has great wealth.
v.10 Pride only breeds quarrels, but wisdom is found in those who take advice.
(Act in humility. If good advice is coming, welcome it. Don’t pretend to be someone when you’re not)
v.11… but he who gathers money little by little makes it grow.
(The essence of saving and investing is this: the earlier you start saving up, the better for your future needs. It may well meet your needs on rainy days)
v.15 Good understanding wins favor.
(You’ll never go wrong if you seek wisdom from God)
v.17… but a trustworthy envoy brings healing.
(God will always be with the righteous man. God is the one who brings healing through the righteous man)
v.20 He who walks with the wise grows wise,
(Tell me who your friends are and I’ll tell you who you are)
v.21…but prosperity is the reward of the righteous.
(God will reward the righteous)
v.24 He who spares the rod hates his son, but he who loves him is careful to discipline him.
(It’s better to discipline a child so that the child will have a sense of what are the right and wrong values in life. Even God disciplines His children.)
